Surviving & Thriving: 5 Steps to Developing Your Workplace Resilience

Resilience is the ability to endure, recover and grow in the face of stress and changing demands. While the concept of workplace resilience isn’t new, our ability to fend off the effects of work stressors in today’s climate may be more challenging than ever. The good news is that while resilience may not be inherent, it is a skillset we can learn and develop.
This session will review the importance of developing and maintaining personal and professional resilience, encourage self-reflection, and identify resources and activities intended to improve individual resilience.
Cindy Campbell is the Senior Training and Development Specialist for the International Parking and Mobility Institute (IPMI). With over 35 years of experience in law enforcement, parking, and transportation services, she brings comprehensive industry knowledge and professional experience to the IPMI training program. She is a past chair of the Board for IPMI. She is credited as one of the founders of the IPMI initiative created to advance professions within the parking and mobility sectors through education and increased awareness. Prior to joining the staff at IPMI, she served as the Associate Director for University Police at California Polytechnic State University. She is now dedicated to providing staff training, motivation, and skill enhancement through IPMI’s onsite and online training programs.

Matt Penney, CAPP is the Director of Parking and Transportation Services for Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He has been in the parking and transportation industry for the past 16 years. Prior to Baylor, he served as a General Manager and Vice President of Longview Transit, in Longview Texas for the managing company McDonald Transit. Penney also worked for the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) as a public transportation funding specialist and as the Director of Service Development for Waco Transit, the public transportation provider for the City of Waco. Matt has a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University.

This session will examine systemic racism that is embedded as normal practice within any organization. It involves policies, practices, structures, and norms that can result in inequitable outcomes for people of color. The session will look at diversity, inclusion, and microaggression’s impact on organizations.

Kim is a veteran facilitator with over 20 years’ experience delivering IPMI Frontline Training, and is a certified Development Dimensions International, Inc. (DDI) and Vital Smarts trainer. Overwhelmed & Unmotivated: Addressing Your Burnout and Reframing Your Focus. Presented by Maria Irshad, CAPP, MPA
Where did your motivation go—and how do you find it again? This session examines how the events of 2020 may have contributed to hindered motivation and stalled self-discipline. Participants will review the factors that play a role in our fatigue and learn what we can do to reframe our energy and reclaim our motivation to get back in the game.

Maria Irshad, CAPP, MPA, is Assistant Director for ParkHouston, the agency responsible for on-street parking in the City of Houston. She leads a team of 75 and provides parking policy recommendations to the mayor’s office. She is a CAPP and holds a master’s degree in public administration. Maria serves as president of the Texas Parking & Transportation Association and is on IPMI’s APO Board along with various IPMI committees. She is also a past president of Women Professionals in Government. She was recognized as the 2020 IPMI Industry Professional of the Year.
